The Unfinished Ending: Why Acts Continues Through Us
Series: Acts: Ends Of The Earth Topic: 1 Scripture: Acts 28:16–31
In this powerful conclusion, we explore Paul's final days in Rome, chained to a Roman guard yet preaching boldly without hindrance. Despite being under house arrest, Paul never stopped sharing the gospel. He welcomed everyone who came to see him, explained the kingdom of God from morning till evening, and watched as some believed while others hardened their hearts. This sermon challenges us to examine our own hearts: Are we hearing but not understanding? Are we seeing but not perceiving? Paul draws a sobering line in the sand using Isaiah's prophecy, warning that those who continually reject the truth risk developing callous hearts that can no longer receive God's message.
We'll also discover what happened to Paul after Acts ends—his release, continued ministry, final imprisonment, and ultimate martyrdom under Nero. His life stands as a testament to faithfulness: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." But here's the beautiful truth: Acts doesn't end with Paul's death. The book ends abruptly because the story continues—through every believer, through every church, through us. The same mission Jesus gave to His disciples is ours today: to make disciples, spread the gospel, and advance the kingdom of God.
