America is a divided country right now, but division isn't just a political problem—it's a church problem too. In this message from 1 Corinthians, we discover that the early church in Corinth was being torn apart by division, with members forming "teams" around different leaders instead of uniting under Christ. The Apostle Paul addresses this critical issue head-on, showing us that division in any context leads to disaster—whether in our country, families, businesses, or especially in the church. Using the word that literally means "to be ripped or torn apart," Paul confronts the Corinthian believers who were saying "I follow Paul," "I follow Apollos," "I follow Peter," or even "I follow Christ" in a divisive way.

This sermon explores why church unity matters so deeply to Jesus. Right before going to the cross, Jesus prayed that all believers would be one, just as He and the Father are one. Why? Because our unity becomes a powerful witness to the world. When Christians love each other and bear one another's burdens despite our differences, it brings glory to God and shows the world what genuine love looks like. But here's the challenge: achieving unity among imperfect, sinful people requires something supernatural. It can't be done through human effort alone—it requires the Holy Spirit working in us to set aside pride, opinion, arrogance, and selfishness.
